Panic attacks

What is it?
Panic attacks can be scary. They can hit a person suddenly making the person feel as if they are having a heart attack, suffocating and they even feel as if they are dying.

What causes a panic attack? According to WebMD, "Experts aren't sure what causes panic attacks and panic disorder. But the body has a natural response when you are stressed or in danger. It speeds up your heart, makes you breathe faster, and gives you a burst of energy. This is called the flight-or-fight response. It gets you ready to either cope with or run away from danger. A panic attack occurs when this response happens when there is no danger."

It is said that more women than men experience panic attacks. These attacks can last 5-20 minutes and the most anxiety a person will experience is about 10 minutes after the initial attack starts. Anxietypanic.com says that 1 out of 75 people world wide will experience a panic attack at one time or another in their lives.

Although some medications can help with anxiety and stress to prevent these attacks, there are other "natural" ways to prevent these as well. For example, if you practice many of the relaxation techniques that are in this blog, you will find that it really helps take with stress.
